Made in Romford
1) the first modern chimney (designed by our Lord and Master, Count Rumford, recognised by Henry David Thoreau as a necessity for civilised life). Prior to him, chimneys either filled the room with smoke, or sent most of the heat outside.

Romans had chimneys, but they were used when it didn't matter that the heat went outside, or it was even an advantage - i.e., in bakeries, which tended to get too hot for comfort;

2) Fat Frank;
3) David Martin;
4) me (well, the very edge, Harold Park).

Also became the first place I saw someone stabbed and constantly stamped on while already well out of the game.

Yeah, the place went to pieces after I left.

Don't claim causality.

My Nan went in boogie times to purchase a copy of ‘drum and bass selection 3’. Can you imagine, her poor teeth must have been rattling from the bass. Never mind the ganja fumes. She said they turned the music down for her though which was nice of them. I’d liked to have been a fly on the wall

The romford fountain.

Actually had tons of quality days out in romford be it the cinema, skating, boozing etc up to around 15 years ago.

Shame the place has become such a fucking hole.

Was in the goose last night, ordered two drinks from the app. After 15 mins i asked at the bar where the drinks were.

Girl faffed about for a bit and said sorry, we are a bit busy.

Ok , cancel the app order and I’ll order and pay now.

It will be 30 mins before we can serve you.

So from ordering to drinks is 45 mins?

Yes

I left and went to Yates.

Not exactly helping themselves back, some businesses.

Almost as if they see failing and claiming compensation a better option.

These apps DO work. Last time I was in the Hague with my family (November last) we went to a fairly busy bar for a meal and ordered by app. The drinks arrived before we'd even got around to ordering starters, let alone the main meal.

It's the old British "management" syndrome:

"How much will it cost to develop this app?"

"5,000 pounds"

"Do it for four. No negotiation."

So the app gets developed to order with a few minor items removed to cut costs, such as "working".

Having left Essex as a toddler in 1973 I spent most of my school holidays in Romford at my grandparents. My Nan was Romford born n bred but my other three grandparents came from London E15, E15 & W10 but all settled in Romford. It was always hotter than where I've grown up in Yorkshire. Some great memories, a real shame that the market is a shadow of its former self. Love the place.

Re: Made in Romford
Didn't Ringo Starr's step-father come from Romford? And when The Beatles played at the Odeon they all went round to visit the family? Sure I read that somewhere.
